One to watch: Will Hoare

What a season it’s been for former Crystal Palace man Will Hoare. The 22-year-old made the decision to move to Sweden at the end of last year and hasn’t looked back.

He joined fourth-tier side Skellefteå alongside fellow former Eagles man Christian Scales in December 2018 with the aim of helping his new side return to the third-tier, which they had just been relegated from. Although they narrowly missed out on promotion, Hoare had a superb season on a personal level.

He made 25 appearances scoring seven goals from centre-midfield, an impressive record for someone who is also equally as adept at breaking up play in front of his defence. His strong all round performances saw him become a firm fan favourite amongst the Skellefteå faithful, earning rave reviews in the local press. He was also voted as the team’s Players’ Player of the Year as his side finished fourth in Division 2 Norrland, a division which includes the talented Ytterhogdals team who are packed with English players.

Before moving abroad, Hoare starred for Crystal Palace youth teams and featured in a Red Bull documentary hosted Djibril Cissé which saw British players aim to earn a trial with RB Leipzig. The midfielder has also played for East Grinstead and Horsham and despite being born and raised in Croydon, has represented Scotland at youth level.

His highlights from the season can be viewed below and show Hoare scoring and assisting goals but also his range of passing from deep and helping to disrupt play and start counter attacks.

It’s been a pleasure to follow Will’s impressive performances this year and with another year on his contract, we’ll be cheering him on as his side aims for promotion again next year.
